John Lyon pupils achieve exceptional GCSE results to progress to our renowned Sixth Form

John Lyon pupils have been rewarded for their hard work with outstanding GCSE results, paving the way for their entry into our Sixth Form. When this cohort progress to our Upper Sixth, they will be part of our co-ed Sixth Form, with girls joining our Lower Sixth in September 2025.

These impressive results have been earned alongside numerous achievements beyond the confines of the classroom. Year after year, we observe that students engaged in sports, arts, drama, and music and our broad range extra-curricular activities consistently perform well in their exams.

Abdul-Kareem achieved hugely impressive straight 9s across all subjects and an A in HPQ (Higher Project Qualification). Abdul-Kareem, who is in the School’s 1
st XI hockey team and is an Academic Scholar, received our prestigious Goldhawk Scholarship for Sixth Form. His performance across the board demonstrates our belief that busy pupils are happy pupils who excel in all areas.

Abdul-Kareem said: “I am extremely thrilled with my results! The School provides the tools for all of us to perform at our very best. The environment here has been amazing. I would like to thank all my teachers and my family for their support. I am going on to do Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry here at John Lyon’s Sixth Form. Following my A-Levels, I would like to pursue Aerospace Engineering at university.”

Madisan received nine 9s, one 8 and an additional A* in HPQ. Madisan, an Academic Scholar, is no stranger to public speaking. He delivered an insightful TEDx talk, hosted here at John Lyon School, titled ‘What is the answer to the success of vaccinations?’ Prior to this, Madisan has spoken at Talks-on-the-Hill events in 2020 and 2022. He is also an active member of the School’s Combined Cadet Force (CCF). Madisan also received our Goldhawk Award for Sixth Form.

Madisan said: “I am so grateful on receipt of my grades. I simply could not have done it without the support from my teachers, and I take these results as an opportunity to steer my A-Levels and future. I am looking forward to taking up my place at John Lyon’s Sixth Form.”

Ravi secured nine 9s and one 8. Ravi, a Grade 8 pianist with distinction, has been keeping busy with multiple work experience opportunities. He has taken up work experience in Biochemistry and Medicine at Imperial College London, and Medicine at both Royal Brompton Hospital and Northwick Park Hospital. Ravi is also member of St John Ambulance, a year-long course each Sunday. At John Lyon, Ravi is an Academic Scholar, leads the Chemistry Club and is an active member of the CCF. He has been given a Goldhawk Award.

Ravi said: “I am so happy with my results. I would like to give a special thanks to my teachers for their tremendous support. Their specialist knowledge here is invaluable. I am extremely looking forward to starting my A-Levels at John Lyon.”

Nikhil achieved eight 9s and one 8. Nikhil is a batsman in our 16A cricket team and, upon receiving his impressive set of results, has been awarded a John Lyon Sixth Form Scholarship.

Nikhil said: “The results could not have been any better! I feel very pleased with my grades. I am now going to do Mathematics, Economics and Geography, as I am working towards taking up either Economics or Finance at university. I look forward to returning to the School for my A-Level studies.”

William received five 9s, three 8s and one 7, as well as an A* in the HPQ. William has aspirations to work in engineering and regularly volunteers and takes on work experience in engineering and construction during the last few summer holiday periods. He is part of the Geography and Sustainability Society and is Lance Corporal (NCO) in our CCF. William has been awarded a Sixth Form Scholarship.

William said: “I am delighted with my results. The facilities and clubs here at John Lyon have really helped me achieve my scores. I am now going to do Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics here at our Sixth Form. Following my A-Levels, I have aspirations to study Engineering at the University of Cambridge.”

Hemang received seven 9s, two 8s and one 7. After completing a process which entailed a project submission, test and interview, Hemang achieved the prestigious Arkwright Engineering Scholarship this year. This is one of the most esteemed scholarships of its type in the UK. He is also a member of the Pride of Lyons, the School’s chamber choir. Robotics is another part of School life that Hemang has taken advantage of. He was on the winning John Lyon team qualifying for the national Vex IQ competition in 2022, with his team receiving both the ‘teamwork’ and ‘excellence’ awards. In 2023, Hemang travelled to the World Championships in Dallas, Texas where John Lyon ranked as the top UK independent school robotics team.

Hemang said: “I would like to thank all my subject teachers for their help and support throughout my GCSE years. I am grateful for the extra-curricular opportunities John Lyon has provided me, which I have enjoyed and will no doubt stand me in good stead in future university applications.”

Congratulations from the Head

Mrs Rose Hardy, Head, said: “We are thrilled to congratulate our Year 11 pupils on their exceptional GCSE results. As reflected in their impressive grades, as well as their pursuits in a range of activities outside of the classroom, their dedication and hard work have clearly paid off. A special thank you to our parents and guardians for their steadfast support, and to our brilliant staff for delivering expert, enthusiastic teaching and guidance throughout these all-important GCSE years.

After a well-earned summer break, I look forward to welcoming our students back in September as Sixth Formers. They will begin their A-Level studies in our bespoke Sixth Form Centre at our Harrow-on-the-Hill campus, where they will be joined this time next year by our first intake of girls in the Sixth Form. It is an exciting time as the School will soon become fully co-educational in every year group from Nursery to Sixth Form. Congratulations to our John Lyon pupils!”
