Girls in Sports workshop sees 10 athletes come to the School

On a scorching summer day at Sudbury Playing Fields, girls from Year 7 and Year 8 had an amazing opportunity to meet accomplished National and International Sporting women. They participated in fun activities and got to ask questions. The special guests shared their personal stories, talking about the challenges they faced on their way to success. They also gave the girls a glimpse into what it’s like to be a celebrity.

At John Lyon, we believe in “Sports for all.” This means that every student has a chance to try new sports, even ones they haven’t played before. It’s all about giving them the freedom to excel in the sports they love and helping them become healthier and better-rounded individuals. The support of these influential celebrities has left our girls inspired to follow in their footsteps.

We thank the following athletes for this incredible experience:
England and GB Hockey: Fiona Crackles, Tess Howard, Lily Walker and Grace Balsdon
England and GB Netball: Kira Rothwell and Halee Robinson
Scotland and GB Hockey: Sarah Robertson (Captain) and Charlotte Watson
England Hockey: Holly Hunt
Australian Rugby: Emily Chance

“It was a fantastic opportunity to meet these talented superstars from various sporting backgrounds. While doing so, we bonded with other girls who enjoy sport as much as we do and discovered new talents, tricks and friends. We also tried on and gave feedback on the School’s Gilbert and Grays International sports kit. It was certainly a memorable day and I’m grateful I was able to be part of it.” ~ Jiya (8JOC)

“We were incredibly lucky to get the chance to ask questions to the athletes about hockey, netball and rugby and to also receive technical training from them. The workshop has certainly enhanced our skills and inspired us to be the very best in the field.” ~ Nancy (7JHA)
