Speakers share perspective on “Why” at Talks-on-the-Hill

Our seventh annual Talks-on-the-Hill, held on Wednesday 12 February, was another huge success. This year’s theme was “The Power of Why”. Organised by our Excellence team, in collaboration with the Lyonian Association, the event is a highlight in the School calendar, bringing together the John Lyon School community and our neighbours from in and around Harrow-on-the-Hill for an evening of inspiring ideas and reflection.

This year, our Boyd Campbell Hall was filled with energy as our Head Prefect Jack (U6JCC) and Year 8 pupil Inaara (8RMK), introduced our distinguished external guests: Joseph Cumberbatch (OL), Winner of Channel 4 and Netflix production Crazy Delicious; Simon Barcessat, Executive Partner at IBM; Cllr Peter Smallwood OBE, Ruislip Councillor and Former President of the National Conservative Convention; Sandeep Nahata, Managing Director at TalentTeam Ltd; in addition to our own Mr Clarke, Teacher of Biology and Ex-Professional Rower, and Sixth Form student, Abdul-Kareem (L6MRF).

The diverse range of themes discussed included politics, artificial intelligence, sports, food and science, offering something of interest for everyone in the audience. It was a thought-provoking and inspiring event, highlighting the power of inquiry and the impact of asking “why”.
